Historical Data

The area where now Lessolo lies was probably first inhabited by Salassi and then by Romans. The first written document reporting the name of the village dates from 1044.

In the Middle Age the village was owned by the noble family of Castellamonte, and a branch of this family was used to live in the local castle.

The parish of Lessolo was first established in 1305, heading to the church of St. George.

The local Administration (Comune) is first cited in a document of 1159, while in 1430 people in Lessolo obtained the statutes (Statuti).

Most information about Lessolo history can be found in the Archivio Storico Comunale and in the Archivio Parrocchiale.

In the last centuries, a number of people left the village to emigrate elsewhere, especially to North and South America.
